🖼️ How to Use Your Own Character Images in Quick Video Story

Upload a character picture directly in References, check the character’s description, and carry the chosen look into your clip plans. You do not need to create a character in My Designs first.

Upload your pictures before generating additional reference images. These screenshots use a fictional example. Read the current Gems price on each generation button before pressing it; prices depend on the model and settings.

  1. 1

Add your story in Make a movie

In Step 1: Script, select Quick Video Story and paste your story or script into “Story, script, or action request”. Use clear, consistent character names so you can find their matching cards. Choose Keep my writing to preserve your wording, then click Run stage 1: Develop Script and review the script.

  2. 2

    Prepare the character cards

    Prepare the character cards

Open Step 2: References and click Run stage 2: Generate References. The system first prepares the text cards for your characters, locations and objects. Once the cards appear, expand the one that matches your character. Preparing these cards is separate from drawing reference pictures: review the displayed price before pressing a generation button.

  3. 3

    Upload your character picture

On the matching card, click Replace… → local → Choose File and select your image. Check that its thumbnail appears on the card. Use a clear view of one character’s face, hairstyle and clothing, ideally with a simple background and no added text or watermarks. Other people, scenery or lettering can influence the generated video.

When the picture and the story disagree

When the picture and the story disagree

If your picture shows different clothes from how the story first describes the character, the card says “Clips follow the picture”. Your clips use the clothes in the picture, at no cost, and the card’s written description stays as it is. Open the card to read one sentence about the difference. If you want the story’s clothes instead, press Change the picture to match the story: it draws a new picture, and its Gems price is on the button.

  5. 5

    Keep your uploaded image

    Keep your uploaded image

To keep the uploaded look, you do not need to press anything. Clips that are not made yet are planned again to follow the picture, at no cost. Clips that are already made, being made, or whose shots you edited stay as they are; the page names them, so you can plan and generate them again. If you edit the description yourself, choose Save text only to keep the uploaded picture. A separate “Not one character alone” warning can refer to scenery or lettering; it does not by itself mean the upload failed.

Check the references in Plan & Generate

Check the references in Plan & Generate

Repeat for your other characters and supply any remaining scene or object references. In Step 3: Plan & Generate, click Plan only to review the clips before generating. Check the picture under each clip’s REFS. If a clip still describes the old outfit, open Clip tools → Edit, correct its text, and click Save - persist & auto-replan. Review the model, duration and displayed Gems price before generating.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to create a character in My Designs first?

No. For this story, upload directly on the matching character card in References. My Designs is an optional way to save and reuse characters.

Do I have to choose anything when the picture and the story disagree?

No. Your clips follow the picture by themselves, at no cost. Press Change the picture to match the story only if you want the story’s clothes; the button shows its Gems price before you pay.

What if my uploaded image does not appear?

Wait for the upload to finish and check for an error. If the thumbnail is still missing, open Replace… → local → Choose File on the matching card and select the image again. Confirm the correct thumbnail before continuing.

Will the generated character look exactly like my reference?

The reference card keeps each character's look from clip to clip. Check each clip, and redo any that drift.
